We are happy that you are taking this step to investigate acupuncture and Chinese medicine to support your fertility journey. It is our pleasure to offer a method that helps the whole person without negative side effects. We understand that couples seeking treatment for fertility issues are in search of a program that will provide them with the best chance possible for conceiving a child. In order to maximize the chances for conception, we create a partnership with each couple to determine exactly what the goals are and establish a treatment plan to maximize all resources (both Western and Eastern) in an effort to reach those goals.

Above and beyond all else, we sincerely hope that acupuncture will not only succeed in helping you to reach your health goals, but that you enjoy the acupuncture treatments and the changes you may begin to experience. Why start acupuncture now?

Our desire is for you to conceive in the quickest, healthiest, and MOST COST-EFFECTIVE way possible. After the initial consult, acupuncture may be determined to be the first (and possibly, only) ideal treatment necessary for you to conceive. If you are doing or need medical fertility treatments, acupuncture will significantly increase the chances of success no matter where you are in your cycle. In the long run, the cost savings can be tremendous.

In a study published in the March 2011 issue of Fertility and Sterility where 398 women were followed, the average cost per person averaged from $1,182 for medication alone to $24,373 for 1 cycle of IVF and $38,015 for 1 cycle of IVF with Donor Eggs. Patients underwent an average of 3.6 treatments. Treatment costs for each successful outcome were higher: $5,894 for medication alone, $61,377 for IVF and $72,642 for IVF with Donor Eggs. Treatment was successful for approximately 30% of patients overall.

With many patients conceiving within 3-6 months of acupuncture treatment at a frequency of 1x/week, the cost of acupuncture for over 4 months of weekly treatments is $1320 (not including herbs and supplements). For women who have regular menstrual cycles, this cost means that they have 4 cycles to try to conceive with each cycle having an increased success rate as the effects of acupuncture accumulate. (see chart below)

For women using ART, using acupuncture to support IUI or IVF may increase the efficacy of a treatment cycle thus decreasing the need for additional ART cycles.  To see our acupuncture success rates with IVF clients, click here.

How often do I need to see you?

For most clients, we recommend coming 1-2 times per week. 1x/week is the minimum so that you can get noticeable benefit from our treatments. However, 2x/week especially in the 1st month of treatment, is recommended so that you will respond more quickly to the acupuncture.

How long will it take for me to conceive?

Because natural medicines such as acupuncture work with the body to harmonize and regulate its functions, it requires regular treatment to correct years of harmful patterns that result in fertility issues.  In general, many of our clients will conceive within 3-6 months of treatment. However, that can vary greatly depending on each individual’s situation and response to acupuncture.  Some people respond more quickly with only a few treatments and others may take longer.

Some factors that greatly affect one’s success are (in no particular order):

• Age
• Existing health issues
• Commitment to our recommendations

Semen Analysis Review Consult

If the male partner does not want acupuncture to start immediately on the first visit, we offer the Semen Analysis Review Consult.  During this 30-40 minute consult, your acupuncturist will review your semen analysis and medical history to explain how male factor can be improved with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and its importance in being addressed even if you are having ICSI.  No acupuncture treatment will be given on this visit. 

Do you accept health insurance?

Because our goal is to provide the best care possible, the distraction of billing insurance would compromise our quality of care.  Therefore, we do not directly bill any insurance plans. If your insurance offers out-of-network acupuncture coverage, after you pay at the time of service, we give you a receipt that you mail to your insurance company so you can be reimbursed directly from them. Please note that your insurance companies may not provide acupuncture coverage to treat infertility.
